Believe it or not, some Chinese people have never even heard of Beihai! We aren’t joking either.

Beihai is a city not known to many which makes it the perfect city to learn Chinese. There will be absolutely no English spoken by the locals here so it’s a great place to immerse yourself into Chinese culture.

From our research there are no more than 50 foreigners in Beihai (mainly English teachers), that leaves about 1.5 million locals who will all be speaking Chinese!

Beihai Weather

Yes, Beihai boasts warm weather pretty much all year round and that in itself is a huge draw for a large number of people!

China is a huge country and therefore the weather varies hugely depending on the city you are in. Take Harbin, in the North East. Winters there reach temperatures leaving even the most avid winter lovers begging for sun!

All year round, Beihai boasts wonderful temperatures and great air with its excellent location on the south coast of China in Guangxi Province.

Great Air

Due to Beihai’s great location on the South Coast of China the air in Beihai is amongst the best you’ll find.

A topic of discussion for many people before coming to China is the air, and although China is making huge steps forward with its battle against pollution, there are still days in China (mainly the north) when the air is not so desirable.

That said, in Beihai you will never have this worry. Day to day, beautiful blue skies, clouds at a minimum and excellent temperatures means this is one of the more desirable places to kick back in China, yet many don’t know even know that yet!

The air is pretty much as good as anywhere else in the world in Beihai, breath it in!

Cheaper

Don’t be fooled by the headline, the quality is still very much there.

The reason for the more affordable courses is the fact the cost of living in Beihai is much cheaper than in Beijing, Shanghai or other major cities like Shenzhen or Guangzhou in Guangdong Province.

Our prices in Beihai are 30% cheaper than our Beijing and Shanghai schools but you’ll receive exactly the same tutelage, exactly the same quality and exactly the same style of lessons.

Outside of class you’ll also find the cost for eating out, going for a beer or like-minded social activities, incredibly cheap and due to the lack of English spoken, it means you’ll be practising your Chinese 24/7 too.

Beihai Beaches

Beihai’s beaches sell themselves. China isn’t widely known for gorgeous beaches but you’ll be hard pressed to come across any nicer beaches in China than Beihai’s.

Picture the scene, you land in Beihai, you are studying Chinese, you finish your lessons and what do you do? 

Head straight over to the beach, grab a sun lounger and a cocktail, put your feet up and revise those new Chinese characters you were studying in your lesson.

Not many schools boast that kind of environment!

Beihai Old Town

The Beihai Old Town Street is famous for its old style colonial buildings.

Beihai Old town is the original site of the first Western trade centres in Beihai. It’s now transformed and hosts a number of bars there alongside a thriving nightlife.

During the daytime it has a more relaxed feel about it. It is filled with souvenir stores and a number of tasty eateries and coffee shops.

It’s a place many of our students will spend time outside of class.

We recommend visiting the Beihai Old Town, after getting settled into your accommodation, to become familiar with one of the more popular areas of the City.

Silver Beach

We’ve already stated “beaches” above, but Silver Beach is perhaps the most famed of those beaches and it’s easy to see why.

Clean sand, blue skies (for most of the year), and clear waters. China isn’t known for it’s gorgeous beaches and doesn’t boast to have them, but in Beihai’s Silver Beach, they have a hidden gem that many Chinese don’t even know much about.

The Silver Beach itself runs for around 24 kilometers, you could run a half marathon and still have a couple of kilometers left to enjoy of the beach!

Kick back in the daytime sun, or get involved in some evening beach sports. Just living the dream!

Easy Access to South East Asia

Beihai is located perfectly if you want to mix in some additional holidays to South East Asia.

The beauty of this is that not only are there so many different places to visit (Thailand, Laos and nearby Vietnam to name but a few), but prices of these locations is typically very cheap, so you won’t blow your budget in any of them.

From Beihai you could be in Vietnam in a little over two hours by car.

If you are wanting to fly to a destination rather than enjoying the open road, then a train to Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Province, takes less than two hours.

Options a plenty!

Weizhou Island

If you come to China to learn Chinese, there are very few places where you can study Chinese and then just waltz your way to a coastline to visit another Island.

Another reason why Beihai is so great!

Weizhou Island is based in the Gulf region of Beibu, which is in the southern part of the city centre. The Island interestingly is an extinct volcano. That makes for some quite beautiful scenery for you to enjoy.

You’ll have the chance to get underwater and take in some of the corals, jellyfish, and starfish amongst other underwater treats!
